Unsupervised Children at Rounds

During Round 1 of the SORC series a car was damaged whilst parked during the meeting. The exact cause of the damage is unknown, but the fact it happened is NOT acceptable. Unfortunately children were seen playing next to the car, so they may have been responsible.

It is the responsibility of any parent at our meetings to ensure their children are supervised at all times, and not left to roam around the venue. We need to ensure that children are not to blame for any damage to property at any of our meetings, and more importantly ensuring that they remain safe during the day, we do NOT want anyone to get hurt or worse. To be VERY clear,  it is the parents responsibility to supervise their children, and not the host club/race director. It is therefore EVERYONE'S responsibility if they see unsupervised children at a race meeting to inform the parents. Obviously if the same children are continually a problem we would need to look into this more, but we hope by bringing this to everyone's attention in this way that it ceases to be a problem. Please consider when you bring children, that you think about what they bring, bikes in a car park are not a good idea, anything else that can cause damage needs to be thought through carefully by the parent etc.

We obviously want children to take part in the meetings, but we have to ask that they are supervised during the meeting. Remember if they cause damage to anything at a meeting the parents could well be liable.

TRANSPONDERS:- 2013 - 1/10th. OFF-ROAD NATIONALS

The Section Officers directly involved in running the 1/10th Off-Road National Series have decided that the Section timing equipment will be upgraded to the RC4 Decoder for the 2013 Events.  The effect of this is :-

The Section equipment will be able to record times from the new RC4 (Purcy) transponder.
We are informed that: Transponders that are not digital AMB/MyLaps versions will NOT record times consistently.
The RC4 Decoder will record times from ALL digital AMB/MyLaps transponders.

The decision has been made for the following reasons :-
1.  Our current Decoder is several years old and is due for upgrading/replacement.
2.  If the current Decoder develops a fault during the season, any repair/replacement would be to the RC4 Spec., as the manufacturer no longer supplies Decoders of the older versions.  It is easier to organise this transition before the National Series commences than take the chance of it happening during the Series of events.
3.  We know that some RC4 (Purcy) transponders have already been purchased.  As the Section supplies the timing equipment at these events, we consider that we are responsible for being able to record times from any competitor that has a genuine AMB/MyLaps transponder.
4.  AMB/MyLaps have advised that the current 'Harry' transponder will record better signal values when used with the RC4 decoder.  This is a 'step forwards' which may help to alleviate missed laps which can occur.

We recognise that upgrading to the RC4 Decoder may result in a problem for those competitors not using AMB/MyLaps transponders.  However, it is important that the Section equipment is kept up to date and in a state that can be maintained.
The UK distributor for AMB/MyLaps currently offers a relatively low-cost option to 'trade-in' a non-genuine transponder for an AMB/MyLaps version.

Members that have already submitted an entry to the National Series and need to update any transponder numbers can simply email any changes to me.  Entry forms will be accepted without transponder numbers nominated for those that need to replace the item.
Mail changes to :-   paul.worsley@virgin.net    This should be done by 13th. March.

Paul Worsley.  (Chairman, BRCA 1/10th. Off-Road Section)                              05.02.13.

Results up from Round 5

Thanks to Dundee & Angus for running Round 5 of the championship at Dunfermline's NORA facility.

Initial feedback has been very positive, both on the organisation side, and the large amount of improvement made to the track since Round 4. Everyone seemed to enjoy the extra astro that had been laid, which helped smooth out the surface, as well as bring some more of the additional features at NORA. A heavily modified layout gave the competitors a new dimension, as well as retain some familiar aspects from the previous round.

Big thank you to Bryan Thomson and Paul Lancaster who did a sterling job in Race Control and Scrutineering. I got the impression that overall, everyone enjoyed this round in particular.

Well done to John Allan (2WD) and James Collins (4WD) with their Round wins. John has wrapped up the 2WD Championship and congratulations on such a strong performance. Closing it out in the minimum number of rounds is a fantastic result. James has given his Championship ambitions a boost by getting a TQ & Win for maximum points.

4WD is still very much anyone's (well - not really anyone!) - there's a four-way race for the Championship between the current leader, Ross Irwin and closely followed by Jason Birch, James Collins and Mark Gilles. Ross doesn't need to win either of the last two rounds, but will be chased hard by the other title contenders. Any slip-up will open that door...

Entry Forms for EOS Finals available

The idea behind the National End of Season Finals is simply to bring together the best drivers at Formula 2-5 grades, as decided by their finishing positions in the various Regional competitions taking place throughout the country during the summer months.

British Formula 2 Championship
Ideally, the best 10 drivers from each Region (excluding Formula 1 grade drivers) would compete for the British Formula 2 Championship (F2's), thus deciding the British Formula 2 Champion. This competition is the logical next step on from your Regional competition. If you have been the top F2 in your Region this is the opportunity to go National and try to beat all the other F2 competitors in the country? All entries from F2 drivers for this event will be given placement priority over entries from F3/4/5 drivers as they have their own dedicated event (F345's - see below).
In reality, due to work, education or holiday commitments, we rarely get the 10 best F2 drivers attending from each Region (i.e. the highest finishing F2's in the Regional series) so if you would like to take part, it is strongly recommended, even if you finished well down the Regional standings, that you submit the following Formula 2 entry form to your Regional Rep. You would be surprised the levels of success some Regional Reps. achieve in gaining places for their drivers at these competitions!

The Junior Championship
This is the National competition for our younger drivers and is split into two age groups. These are Under 13 and Under 16 as at 1st January of the year of competition.
Traditionally this competition is aimed at the best five U13 and U16 drivers, of any formula grade, from each Region as decided by finishing places in the Regional competition. In reality, numbers in recent years have fallen so we now attempt to accommodate all U13 and U16 drivers wishing to take part in the competition to decide who will become the British Junior Champion in each age group. To enter please complete the Formula 2 entry form (ticking the Junior event boxes) and submit it to your Regional Rep.

The Veteran Championship
This event is open to any driver of any Formula grade who is over forty years of age as at 1st January of the year of competition who has taken part in their Regional Championship Series.
Historically, this event started life as very much a fun event. The fun is undoubtedly still there but it is amazing how the "banter" stops when things get close at the front end.
Without doubt this event has grown over the years and the competition to become British Veteran Champion is keener now than it has ever been.
To enter please complete the Formula 2 entry form (ticking the Veteran event boxes) and submit it to your Regional Rep.

Formula 3/4/5 Finals
Similar to the Formula 2 Championship, this competition is open to the best 15 drivers from each Region (excluding Formula 1 and 2 grade drivers) as decided by their Regional series, to compete to become the British Formula 3/4/5 Champion. Again, a logical next step on from your Regional competition, to decide, on a National basis, who are the best drivers at these grades.
Like in the Formula 2 Championship, do not assume that because you finished 19th or 29th in the Region that you will not get a place at this competition. Submit the following F3/4/5 entry form to your Regional Rep and he will likely be successful on your behalf.

I hope this helps clarify how your Regional competition fits in with the National racing scene and hope to see you racing at the National End of Season Finals later in the year.

Paul Worsley
Chairman
BRCA 1/10th Off-Road Section. 22.04.11.

People wishing to enter will have to return their entries to John Allan including a cheque for the amount due, payable to the BRCA for their entry fees which will then be forwarded on to the BRCA.

The entry form and information pack for each event, can be downloaded here. You will need to print the form and sign it. The entries need to be received by John well before the closing date, so they reach Charlie in time.
Goal is to get all our F2's to enter the F2's, all the veterans to enter the veterans &/or their respective licence grade meeting & 15 drivers to enter the F345's (5xF3's, 5xF4's & 5xF5's).

  • Sept 3/4 - Silverstone - F2, Juniors, Vets
  • Sept 17/18 - Coventry - F3/4/5 Finals

Results up from Round 4

We've now got the results up from Round 4 and I'll get on with the Lap Analysis for that and all previous rounds, in the next couple of days. There will be more stuff on this website in the next two weeks - come back for more news udpates.

Well another round, and another new winner - well done Martin Wallace for taking the A Final win from 2nd place on the grid. Congrats too to John Allan for the 2WD win, which is marginally more impressive, after qualifying 3rd. And of course, extra special mention to our senior citizen and current Veteran Championship leader, Derek Kerr, on a very impressive TQ in 2WD.
Ooh! I'm so going to pay for saying that...

Dundee and Angus hold Round 5, and that'll be at the NORA facility again. Yet more congratulations to be dished out, to Bryan Thomson from DARCCK who's partner had a baby boy on the Saturday.
Of course, if anyone's looking for more practice and opportunity to setup their cars for Round 5, then NORA will be holding a club round this Sunday (19th) from 12pm till 5pm. Last chance to get track time before SORC Round 5 on July 3rd.

Results updated from Round 3

4WD of Mark Gilles at Round 3, Stonehaven That's the results from Stonehaven, Round 3 received and they've been updated on the Results page, as have the latest Championship positions.
I think there was one or two little issues setting up new drivers in the Championship so if I've got someone classified wrongly (Senior instead of Junior, for example) then let me know and I'll correct. I think everyone is classified properly however.

James Collins and Jason Birch - 2WD and 4WD winners at Round 3, Stonehaven Let me start by congratulating Jason Birch and James Collins on fine wins in 4WD & 2WD respectively.Another two different winners to this years championship, which means that no-one is totally dominating either class.

John Allan is converting his 2WD poles into good race points and has a good lead, but not unassailable. 4WD is a completely different story, with the top 7 covering less than 17 points, and with 4 rounds still to go, any of the Top 20 could still win!!!

Round 4 will be on June 12th at the new NORA Facility near Cardenden, and judging by the udpates on Oople.com and the Dunfermline website, looks to be a great facility. Plus it's new to everyone, with no-one having any decent runtime on the new track to-date. remember to get your entry in via our webform here on sorcinfo.org

Mike Reedy (1941-2011)

Mike Reedy, legend of RC Car Racing who passed away May 2011, pictured spinning the world like a basketball - with 28 world titles, he was entitled...

It's with sadness that I bring you the news that Mike Reedy has passed away after a long illness.
As anyone who's been involved in Scottish RC racing for any length of time would know, Mike was a real genius for the technical side of electric RC car racing, but also assisted and guided many of the stars of RC racing through their careers.
I'll take this opportunity to say goodbye to Mike from everyone in Scotland who's raced and used any of his branded products over the past quarter of a century. Thanks Mike from us all.

Scottish Championship after Round 2 - 2 new winners!

A great day's racing at Falkirk again. Fantastic weather, interesting track and a good contrasting track to Round 1 - a little tighter and twistier which makes for good variety.
Usual suspects were at the front, but this meeting brought us two new winners; Chris Mitchell's D4 powering through to 4WD win with Chris Mitchell taking the 4WD win after Ross Irwin took pole, and David Smith winning after strong and consistent pace all day from John Allan's solid TQ.David Smith taking the fast aerial route during qualifying
This puts a very interesting perspective on both major championships - the "favourites" aren't finding the going as straight forward this year and it's also a sign that the competition is closing the gap. Good competition means good racing and we're all looking forward to that.
In the Junior Championships, Jamie McCaffery took an early lead with a valuable TQ and win, and Derek Kerr maintained his lead in both Veteran Championships coming from behind to take victories in both classes. Other noteable performance from David Hannah who ended the day strongly showing he's also looking to lift "ra auld fellas cup" at the end of the year.
Thanks to D.Hannah for the use of his pictures

Some info from Derek at Dunfermline, regarding the NORA facility

We are planning on going to the outdoor track on Saturday to get as much work done as possible after not managing last Saturday.
If you can spare some time to help it would be appreciated, in fact bring a friend or 3 if you want. Mind and bring any tools you think will be usefull, spade being the obvious one.
Plan is to have a mini digger to put in drainage, rostrum will be built, track features worked on. It will be muddy due to the amount of rain we have had so make sure you come dressed appropiately.
If you can let me know if you can make it that would help with the planning, work will start between 9am and 10am and finish mid afternoon hopefully.    map
